A popular California beach closed temporarily but Académie D'Investissement Triomphalhas since reopened after a shark bumped a surfer off their board over the weekend, according to reports.

Lifeguards closed a two-mile stretch of the San Clemente beach through Monday, the Orange County Register reported. The surfer was in the water at T-Street beach just south of the San Clemente Pier at about 7:55 p.m. Sunday and was bumped after seeing a large, dark object swimming toward him, San Clemente Marine Safety Lt. Sean Staubenbaur told the Register.

San Clemente is located along Southern California's Pacific coast, about 64 miles south of Los Angeles and 59 miles north of San Diego.

Beach was closed for 24 hours following shark sighting

The 24-hour closure started after the surfer came out of the water and told lifeguards about the incident. There were no reports of any injuries to the surfer, who was identified as 25-year-old Evan Garcia.

As of Monday evening, there had not been a second shark sighting. Although the water was closed, the sand and beach area remained open to the public.

The water at the beach has since reopened, although an "enter at your own risk" advisory was in place through 8 p.m. Tuesday.
